On my quest to continue trying things out to make mom life easier or better, below are a few of my favorites from April and May 2021. From personal development books and virtual races to a few self-care items, I hope you find a way to treat yourself mentally and physically this Spring.
I cannot describe to you how mindset-changing “The Slight Edge” book by Jeff Olson has been for me. TBH, I initially didn’t buy it because it didn’t have an audiobook version, but I’m so glad I got the hard copy because it is FULL OF NOTES, underlines and asterisks.
The Slight Edge makes it clear how simple little actions repeated over time can change the course of your life. Add your thoughts into that and you finish this book feeling empowered and in control.
While we’re talking about books, can I tell you how much I enjoyed “Believe It” by Jamie Kern Lima? She went through years of struggling to make her dreams happen, got more “no” responses than I could ever imagine, and had an incredible Cinderella-esque ending. Although I’ll never amount to her level of success, I was inspired by her nonetheless and the book provides a lot of universal truths.
I am in love with my Hillberg and Berk sparkle ball stud earrings in rose gold. They are subtly sparkly but light enough that they don’t weigh on my earlobes. Plus, it’s a women-owned business! Similar to Jamie Kern Lima, founder Rachel Mielke has an inspiring background (overcoming cervical cancer) and broke into an incredibly tough and competitive industry.
This bamboo charging station has cleaned up my bedside table. It looks nice and accommodates all of my devices in one place. I use it with a 6-port USB charger, which keeps my cord mess to a minimum. I feel like I Marie Kondo’d my cord situation.
A co-worker told me about Goodr’s running sunglasses. They are supposed to be light enough to wear them while running. I was super skeptical but gave them a try anyway, and I’m glad I did! They actually don’t move! I bought the Bosley’s Basset Hound Dreams design but they have a bunch of styles to choose from. View all Goodr running sunglasses »
This month, I continued my virtual race kick, finishing the Yes.Fit Mermaid in Denmark 22.2 miles virtual race. I completed that along with the World’s Largest Bunny Hop 6.2 miles in two days over Easter break. I’m now working on the Different Together 25.3 miles race, which was special for National Autism Awareness Month. $5 per finisher goes to Autism Society of America. Yes, I can run on my own, but each gives me added incentive to finish!

It was a happy accident that I noticed one evening, my nails matched the colors of the sunset. I continue to love Olive and June nail polish, especially now that the warmer weather is here I am more excited to try more colors. Pictured: KMC (blue), Bright & Focused (yellow), XOXO (pink). A little more self-care: I’m so glad I added Avalon Organics hand and body lotion to my Whole Foods shopping cart. The lavender SMELLS AMAZING! It isn’t oily but still hydrating for the skin, and it doesn’t have any GMOs, parabens, etc. so I feel good about using it. I use it before bed and the lavender smell is also incredibly calming.
And finally, in case you missed it, I completed Whole30! It was seriously challenging but totally WORTH IT! I learned a lot about myself and my body. Plus, I tried so many new foods, some of which are now staples on my grocery shopping list. View my Whole30 tips and helpful resources »
Have you tried any of the items above or want to? Or, did you try anything new this past month that you highly suggest we try? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Please comment below!
