Have you also seen those ads for the My Billie razor that promises women basically everything you’ve been looking for in a razor? Larger surface area, smooth shave, gets in all the curves and no “pink tax.” Sounds great, right?
It’s only $9 for a starter kit, which contains 2 razor blades. After that, it’s $9 for 4 razor blades. Considering my regular Venus razor blades are around $13 for 4 blades, it seemed like a good deal if I liked them. Why not try it out?
When I received the box, I was pleasantly surprised. As a marketing nerd, I loved the presentation, the branding and the little touches like the quote in the box. A good start to this trial.
As you can see, I also bought the Dry-Bye body lotion and some wonder wipes. Mostly, I wanted to get the free shipping and so had to spend more than $15. But also justified if I liked these items enough to buy them regularly, I hoped to put them on repeat purchase and save on the pink tax.
Billie Razor Starter Kit
Like most razors, you need to buy the handle before you can buy just the blades. The My Billie razor starter kit contains the handle, the holder (so the razor can stick to the wall) and 2 razor blades.
The razors work well and provide a nice, close shave on my legs. The blades have a shaving soap on them under the razor blade. At first, the soap is a bit goopy but it makes my skin feel super smooth and soft after it washes away.
Since I forgot to take these off auto-ship for a few months, I’ve had weeks to try these razors out. There are a few differences between my old razors and the Billie razor:
- The Billie razors are so wide that they aren’t able to get into all the grooves of my armpits. I’m often left with a patch of hair on both sides that the blades can’t reach.
- I’ve gotten cuts multiple times when trying to shave my armpits. I’ve NEVER cut under my arms while shaving before.
- The hair is harder to wash out of the razor blades. Often, I need to (carefully) use my fingers to get it out.
- The holder never stayed stuck to the wall with the razor on it. My razor has fallen multiple times so I’ve stopped trying to make it work.
I’ve never had my razor hanging on the wall before so not having the holder work doesn’t make a huge difference in my life.
I continue to use my Billie razor on my legs, but if it’s been a few days between shaves, I first use my Panasonic electric razor. It doesn’t provide as thorough or close of a shave but the electric razor takes care of my armpits and then the shorter hair doesn’t get stuck in the razor. Note: my $19 electric razor has been going strong for about 2 years now!
Overall, Billie has good razors for $9 and they provide a really nice, close shave. I love the convenience of it being shipped directly to your house and that they’re cheaper than my regular blade refills.
However, it bugs me that they often show the razors taking care of a woman’s underarms when mine cannot. It makes me wonder, do I have misshaped underarms? Thanks, marketing team. But, these are great for your legs!
Billie “Dry-Bye” Body Lotion
The My Billie lotion has a nice, subtle lemon scent… but in a good way, not like house cleaner lemon. I really only smell it when I put my hand to my nose.
I bought this lotion about 6 months ago to keep by the bathroom sink to use after washing my hands so they wouldn’t get dry and cracked in the winter. This lotion is very moisturizing, absorbs quickly but didn’t make my hands greasy. It’s thick but rubs on easily.
TBH, it’s a great lotion! It’s $12 for 8 oz, but the bottle still hasn’t run out!
Billie “Wonder Wipes” Face Wipes
Especially in the winter, my go-to make-up removers are often face wipes. I am too impatient to wait for the water to warm up before washing my face. I hoped the Wonder Wipes would replace my existing Simple Cleansing face wipes.
These Billie face wipes are 100% plant-based and promise to gently remove your make-up while hydrating and adding vitamin c serum.
After trying the Wonder Wipes face wipes, they definitely removed the makeup as promised, but apparently I have sensitive skin because sometimes after using them, my skin lightly burned for a few minutes.
I think it was the hyaluronic acid or vitamin c serum, but if you have sensitive skin, I would not recommend these. Otherwise, they removed my makeup well, hydrate my skin, and are paraben, alcohol and sulfate free. If you’re looking for make-up remover wipes, these Wonder Wipes are a good addition to your Billie order.
