I used to be so good about planning ahead a week’s worth of lunch and dinner. But that takes hours of time that I don’t have anymore (thanks kids!).
For a long time, I ordered lunches with Freshly meal deliveries during busy seasons, but they really only offer meal for one person so I’ve been keeping my eyes open.
What I was looking for in a new meal delivery service:
- Fresh, pre-made meals (no chopping or using an oven or stove)
- Healthy ingredients and no additives
- Option for family-sized portions
- Not carb heavy
- Not spicy
- Delivery
- Ideally not automatic subscription
- Don’t have to order far in advance.
Freshly doesn’t have family-sized portions, is a subscription service only and you have to order at least a week in advance. So while the food is good, it’s not as convenient as I wanted.
Initially, I learned about MightyMeals through seeing their hot pink delivery vans. While at a long stoplight, I decided to look it up. Then of course, online advertising reminded me of MightyMeals ads regularly until I finally had time to really review the website.
Every time I started an order, MightyMeals checked all the boxes. So, I finally decided why not try them out?
Mighty Meals Overview
For those of you who aren’t familiar with MightyMeals, below is a quick overview of this food delivery service.
- Meals cost ~$6 to $13
- Meals are delivered in labeled plastic containers
- Meals are pre-made, only microwave sometimes required
- Like Freshly, the interface allows you to filter out options (gluten free, nut free, etc.)
- For each meal, you can read the full ingredient list, nutrition facts and macronutrient ratios
- The menu offers individual or bulk portion sizes and snacks
- Meals are packaged in a bag without ice packs or insulation, so you need to be able to put it in the fridge ASAP
- The order window closes a few days prior but can be pre-arranged for two weeks out, pending availability
Currently, MightyMeals is only serving zip codes in the DC area.
Mighty Meals Review
From the two times I’ve ordered, I’ve been extremely happy with MightyMeals so far. I ordered a few days out, the bulk items work well for quick family meals and the individual meals are big enough to be twoish.
It’s awesome having the ingredients and macronutrient ratios provided as I’m still trying to somewhat follow the Whole30 program guidelines. But even cutting out sugar, grains and spicy food (personal preference), I have plenty of options.
The one downside is that they currently only deliver to me on a Thursday or Saturday, which isn’t as ideal as Monday or Tuesday for the workweek. However, the food lasts a few days and has come in handy for busy weekends. I literally ate a chef salad at an 8 a.m. soccer game.
