Since my goal is to try out new things to help make #momlife easier, I need to let you know about The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian podcast.
An acquaintance told me about the Finn Caspian podcast; her whole family loves it.
I hadn’t listened to a kid’s podcast before. But, I figured why not give it a try? I like calm car rides!
Before our next car ride, I looked up Finn Caspian on my Apple Podcast app. We were in the car for about 45 minutes, and I pressed play. One kid was grumpy I turned off the music, one kid was intrigued and one kid didn’t care. We played the first episode and the car was QUIET.
On the way home, the kid, who DID NOT want to listen to episode 1, asked if we could play episode 2. So we did. And now every time I get in the car, they ask for it. Before we even buckle our seatbelts. It’s annoying AND awesome because I want to listen to it too!
We’ve listened to the podcast for hours straight on rides to and from vacation, soccer tournaments, etc. The fictional podcast started back in 2016, so we have years of podcasts to catch up on.
Background: The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian
The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian science fiction podcast follows Finn Caspian, a boy who lives on the Marlow space station. It starts right before he turns “of age” to get his first robot. He’s the first of his friends to get a robot, Foggy. With at least one robot, he and his friends are allowed to fly to new planets and become explorers.
Pretty quickly, their trips to planets begin. The aliens they meet and challenges they encounter take your imagination on a ride. You never know what’s going to happen, but you’re rooting for them the whole time.
What I love about the Finn Caspian podcast:
- The story captures kids’ imagination and attention
- Kids are the main characters
- Each character is different; they’re smart in their own ways with their own skill sets.
- The explorers support each other and work as a team. Yes, they argue but they talk it through and resolve it politely.
- The Marlow and robots love books and the library. It’s OK to be a book nerd!
- New fun phrases like “sweet fancy oreos” and “grand salutations,” which my kids say all the time now.
- The adults in the story trust the kids, and in fact rely on them often.
- The intro bot, Beebop, has his own personality, stories and silliness. He’s my husband’s favorite.
- The writer and narrator, Jonathan, keeps things lighthearted with pranks and jokes.
- Jonathan asks for input from his audience with polls, riddles and sometimes lets them decide the next part of the story.
- Since this is all very fictional, the “scary” parts of the story don’t turn into nightmares for my kids later.
- Each episode is about 15-20 minutes.
In fact, this is a “kids podcast” but I won’t let my kids listen to it without me because I want to hear the story too! I’m not sure what we’re going to do when we’re finally caught up and have to wait for new episodes to be released.

There are also 4 Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian books available. They feature the same characters but aren’t repetitive to the podcast stories.
My kids have been loving those books as well. If you have a child with an adventurous imagination, I hope you give the podcast or books a chance.
