For more than a year, friends have recommended that I read the A Court of Thorns and Roses book series by Sarah J. Maas. I read the synopsis of book 1, A Court of Thorns and Roses, added it to my book wish list, and moved along.
I’ve never read books in the fantasy genre, and reading that it’s “faerie lore” completely lost my interest. However, I kept being pointed back to these books, so I decided to take a chance and read the first book.
Feel free to read each book’s summary on Amazon, but essentially the books focus on a 19-year old woman named Feyre who gets (literally) dragged into the world of faeries and has to figure out how to survive and then ultimately thrives.
This world and genre was completely unknown to me, but these books opened my imagination, got me emotional, included some love stories, and helped me escape into an unfamiliar world.
I could not stop reading! No, really. What happened these past few weeks? No clue. Every free minute I had went to reading ACOTAR.
In fact, I was so captivated by these books that after book 1, I couldn’t wait the 12-15 weeks for each book to become available through my library on the Libby app. That’s right, I broke down and signed up for Audible so I could devour these books.
Different from the previous series I’ve read (ex. Bridgerton series or Winston Brothers series), book 2 did not follow a similar pattern to book 1. In fact, book 2 took me on an emotional rollercoaster with nauseating loops.
IMO, each book in the series was unique (only books 2+3 were closely aligned). This series reminded me of Harry Potter, where the stories intesified as the series progressed and I got more invested in the characters with each book.
Coincidentally, when I got to A Court of Silver Flames, the book became available at my local library, so I switched between reading through hardcopy book and through Audible. Sometimes it feels good to hold a real book.
The world that Sarah J. Maas created captivated me. And, I’ve learned I’m not alone – there’s an SJM fan universe out there! I’m grateful for the fandom because I now look for every opportunity to talk about these books!
What’s more surprising to me is that despite the large following these books have, there are so many others who’ve never heard of the books. So if you’re one of the many who hasn’t tried to read them yet – coming from someone who was hesitant to try them out, I highly suggest you give them a try.
And if you do read them, please comment below so I can chat about ACOTAR some more!
A Court of Thorns and Roses Series in Order
Right now, the A Court of Thorns and Roses series is a set of 5 books, but I keep hearing that book #6 is coming. Hooray! But when it will be out or a synopsis of the story is still TBD.
So far, these are the 5 ACOTAR books in order:
A Court of Thorns and Roses (Book 1)
A Court of Mist and Fury (Book 2)
A Court of Wings and Ruin (Book 3)
A Court of Frost and Starlight (Book 4)
A Court of Silver Flames (Book 5)
Untitled Book 6, still to come
If you’re like me, I highly recommend signing up for Audible to be able to get the books right away – it’s so worth it! Or of course, there’s always the option to just buy the book set, if you don’t have a friend who will lend you their copies.
Have you read the ACOTAR series books too? If so, what were your thoughts on the books? Who were your favorite characters or which is your top book of the series? Please comment below. I’d love to hear from some fellow ACOTAR fans!
Thanks for reading!
