About two years ago, I posted about my journey to learn how to style my wavy to curly hair. Over the months, I’ve tweaked my hair styling process, but for more than a year now, I’ve used and grown to love LUS (Love Ur Self) brands products.
In the summer of 2022, I learned about the LUS three-step system for wavy hair. It includes the sulfate-free shampoo, silicone free conditioner, and wavy all-in-one styler.
LUS hair products are all formulated specifically for wavy to curly hair, so I felt like they have to REALLY know curly hair. And, they have a 30-day money back guarantee so I figured why not give it a try?
I also liked that LUS brands hair products have no sulfates, no parabens, no silicones, and also leaves out a bunch of other harmful ingredients for my hair.

Something I keep hearing about wavy to curly hair is that every day, you can use the exact same products and styling method, yet your hair can look very different. I’ve found that to be true.
However, with my LUS hair products and the bowl method, my hair has more consistently had good days versus ponytail days. Even on day 2 or 3, which is a big win for me!
Somehow, the spiral curls and good hair days never seem to look as good in photos as they do in person, but above are a few photos where you can see my hair has moved beyond wavy hair toward curly!
Bowl Method
My hair stylist was the one who recommended that I try the bowl method after shampooing and conditioning my hair. I tried it and was amazed at how much better my results were… and easier to do.
Now, every wash day, I use my LUS shampoo and conditioner as normal. While still in the shower, I apply the wavy all-in-one styler, but don’t wash it out. Instead, I disperse the cream throughout my hair.
Then, I fill a bowl with water (yes, I bring it into the shower with me), turn off the shower, flip my hair over and use the bowl method on my hair. When on vacation, I’ve used the hotel sink instead of a bowl.
While still flipped over, I wrap my hair in a microfiber towel. Then, I stand up and get out. After about 15 minutes, I flip my head back down, unwrap my hair, and apply curly hair gel (prayer hands, twirl hair, etc).
Finally, I air dry or use the diffuser + Dyson supersonic hair dryer on cold days.
Everyone’s hair is different, but this is the process that I’ve found works well for me. I’ll continue tweaking and will post back if I learn of anything different.
What is the bowl method?
If you’re not familiar with the bowl method, there are tons of YouTube videos online. Here is one that is similar to the process I follow:
