After I read (and loved) Penny Reid’s Winston Brothers book series, I had to go on to read her Knitting in the City book series. Apparently the Knitting in the City book 4 inspired the Winston Brothers series, so I had to go back to where it all began. And, I’m so glad I did!
The Knitting in the City book series by Penny Reid follows 7 women in their relationship journeys. We learn that these women are connected through their weekly knitting group meetings where they get together to talk about their lives and knit (or crochet). But it quickly becomes more than that (as all good novels do).
As the books progress, we learn more about their histories, watch them each grow individually and together. These ladies (and their significant others) support each other through some of the best and worst times.
You can read much better synopsis of each book on Amazon, but what spoke to me is the strength of each of these women. They are strong women individually, but don’t hesitate to support each other and cheer each other on.
These KITC women are smart, respectful, kind and independent women living in Chicago with jobs like a nurse, psychologist and journalist. But, they’re not afraid to be vulnerable and ask for help. And of course, it’s full of romance and completely unrealistic scenarios where someone just happens to be a celebrity or extremely rich – good for them, right?
Throughout the books, these women felt like my friends. I wished I had my own weekly knitting group to go to. Although I don’t know how to knit… something I might try in the future.
Knitting in the City Book Series In Order
Even more than book 4 introducing us to the Winston brothers, I was surprised to find that book 1 also introduces us to characters we meet during the Winston Brothers books as well. I won’t ruin the surprise — you’ll have to read to figure it out for yourself. But I love it when authors drop these little easter eggs for you to figure out. So fun!
I actually “read” all of these through Audible audiobooks. They were nice, lighthearted stories that I enjoyed listening to while doing laundry, getting ready in the morning or just trying to forget the stresses of everyday life.
Penny Reid is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Have you read any Penny Reid books? Or, do you have another book series you’d recommend? Please comment below.
Thanks for reading!
