Every Fall, I try to go apple picking. There’s something so pure and fun about picking your own apples! But then comes the realization that you can’t possibly eat all of those apples before they go bad– what’s a mom to do? My suggestion– make apple sauce in the crockpot!
Am I the only one that goes overboard when out in the apple orchard?
It took me a few years of trial and error to find a recipe that works, but I found this apple sauce in the crockpot recipe and figured why not try it? Well turns out, this one is a winner!
First, I always try to use a mix of different apples. Different apples result in a beautiful blend of flavors that is never the same.
I don’t peel the apples because who has time for that? Instead, I slice them. The skin doesn’t mash up, but the slices are small enough that my kids don’t seem to mind. #timesaver
Plus, the skin has extra nutrients right?
PSA for crockpot users the plastic bag around my crockpot is a slow cooker liner and it makes clean-up SO EASY. Sure, it doesn’t make for as beautiful of a photo, but who has time to scrub a crockpot? #timesaver
OK so time to measure the remaining ingredients and mix it all up. I tend to use larger apples or sometimes more than 9, so if I add apples, I add a little more lemon juice and cinnamon because why not?
Spiced apples Mixed apples
After 4 hours, your house smells AMAZING and you’re so excited to try your homemade apple sauce.
You open the crockpot lid and the apples… don’t look like applesauce.
But then you mix it with a spoon and the cooked apples disappear into beautiful, homemade apple sauce.
The apple sauce takes a long time to cool, so I divvy into smaller portions such as lunch containers for the week and glass mason jars (the lids seal quickly!).
Clean-up takes seconds as I throw the slow cooker liner away and rinse out the crockpot. Easy peasy. Delicious. Homemade.
I hope you enjoy this recipe from strengthandsunshine.com as much as my family does!
