After completing Caroline Girvan’s Iron Series, which is completely focused on lifting heavy weights and muscle burnout, I was excited to slow down and try the 4 Weeks for Every Body workout program. While it still focuses on lifting weights, it offers a lower intensity.
Background on 4 Weeks for Every Body
- It’s taught by creator Autumn Calabrese
- This program is only available to BODi / Beachbody on Demand subscribers.
- Each workout averages 30 minutes, including the warm-up, workout and cool down.
- There are variations of each move so that anyone could do these workouts, from beginners through experts.
- There are 4 unique workouts for 4 weeks. You pick your 2 rest days and activity for 1 active rest day.
- The program includes a cardio day, 1 minute per move — whew!
- There is an accompanying nutrition program that focuses on gut health, for an extra cost.
- To do this program, you will need a variety of weights (light, medium, heavy), yoga mat, a hand towel (for some moves) and a workout ball (suggested)
- These workouts are less impact since she often focuses on the eccentric movements on one side then you switch to the other.
- The end of each workout, the cast talks to Bobby Calabrese (Autumn’s brother) and tastes a new recipe. I assume if you pay for the nutrition program, you get access to the recipes.
“It’s not an alarm clock, it’s an opportunity clock. It gives you the opportunity to wake up and chase those goals.”
Autumn Calabrese, 4 Weeks for Every Body
PROS
- As always, Autumn is so motivating throughout the entire program.
- The way the cast chats, it feels like you’re just hanging out with some friends while working out.
- This is a great program for beginners since Autumn demos each move and walks you through corrections during the move.
- There is a modifier option for moves, as applicable, for those who need low impact.
- Autumn really maximizes the time of the workout. A lot of combination moves, varying which muscles work to keep you moving.
- These workouts definitely got me sweating!
- Autumn really does use the exercise ball in every workout. But, you don’t need to buy it as she provides alternate moves.
- For some of the moves, I was able to use my 15 lb. kettle bells! Not many programs allow for those.
- You do get a good amount of ab/core work in; I think more so if you have the ball.
CONS
- Ultimately, I didn’t get as good of a workout in as I wanted to. Since the workouts were 30 minutes total, I often ended wishing it was longer.
- Many of her moves were combination moves. For me, this complicated how I breathed and what muscle(s) to focus on for activation.
- Autumn says they’re recording 2 workouts a day. It’s awesome she’s transparent, but it reduces the impact of the cast commenting that they’re struggling to finish a round. They’ve done two workouts that day!
- If I physically was able to use the moves (not the modifiers), then it would definitely have been harder, but due to my Legg Calve Perthes in my hip, I just couldn’t make some moves work.
- No matter what the day’s focus is, every day is leg day! Whew, the burn!
My 4 Weeks for Every Body Results
I enjoyed this program! I completed it in 4 1/2 weeks instead of 4 due to a small vacation I took in the middle of the program, but it was easy to pick up and keep going.
I don’t think I got stronger since it was hard to push myself in such a short workout, but I certainly maintained my strength and made it through, which was a plus.
As mentioned, I didn’t do the meal plan they talked about. I think this program would’ve had more of an impact on me if I had, but c’est la vie.
But in the end, it was a good change of pace and fun to try out the more complex moves.
Would I do it again? Probably not. If I was to do another Autumn Calabrese program, I would go back to my current favorite of hers, 9 Week Control Freak Off the Wall. While I enjoyed the change of this program, I didn’t feel like the workouts were long enough for me.
Have you tried 4 Weeks for Every Body? If so, what were your thoughts on the program? If not, do you have others that sound similar that you’d recommend? I’d love to hear your feedback! Comment below.
