As I continue to cut back on unnecessary, added sugar in our house, Hiya daily vitamins for kids caught my attention. The ad touted no sugar, dyes, or preservatives. I was intrigued.
First thing, I checked my kids’ daily vitamins to compare. Sure enough, their gummy vitamins had 2 grams of sugar (cane sugar) and glucose syrup! Luckily, it did not include artificial flavors or colors, but did they really need that sugar? Nope!
So, we decided to give Hiya vitamins a try.
The initial package arrives with a yellow glass bottle, stickers, and a packet of 30 days worth of vitamins.
The kids had a lot of fun personalizing their glass bottles with their names and the icons. Then I filled in a few additional words like “smart,” “kind,” and other adjectives to describe them.
At first, the kids were 100% opposed to these vitamins. The dramatic gag faces they made for the first week were bad enough that I actually gave up and canceled our subscription.
But I continued to give them the rest of their vitamins every day to use up our supply. By week 3, both kids were taking the vitamins with no problem.
So, I restarted the monthly subscription and now get a 30-day refill monthly. I don’t have to worry about re-ordering and they now get 2 grams less of sugar every day.
I haven’t tried a Hiya vitamin myself, but looking back, it’s no surprise that the kids didn’t like Hiya vitamins at first when compared to their gummy vitamins.
Now, I equate it to those old Flinstones daily vitamins I used to take. They tasted sort of dry and chalky; similar texture to smarties candy. They weren’t good or bad – just something I had to get used to.
Now that my kids are used to them, it’s no big deal. #momwin
I’m glad I tried Hiya vitamins for my kids! The monthly refill for 2 kids are $28 each, which is more expensive than our old gummy vitamins, but these work for us until I can find a better alternative.
Why are all kids vitamins out there gummy?

We had a similar experience yet now we LOVE hiya. It’s the best product and truly an amazing company. I heard their founder (Darren Litt — one of the dad founders…which is cute) on a podcast and he was amazing. Big recommendation!

Oh how cool! I’ll have to look for the podcast! We had switched back to gummy vitamins and then my kids were like “Nope! I want the Hiya!” so even though it was a rocky start, they now prefer it! I’m glad you like their products too! Cheers!

My kid got sick from taking this product! The company would respond or provide the third party testing. The doctor said likely trace heavy metals in the product as that is common in poorly made supplements!!!
Do not trust them!

Interesting and good to know. My kids haven’t gotten sick from the Hiya vitamins. Did the doctor actually test or just assume? I’d be interested to know the results. Thanks for sharing!

Well I tried them before giving to my child and I nearly gagged. After about 45 minutes my stomach is hurting a lot,not sure if it’s the vitamins. But I am requesting a refund immediately.

Wow, I guess it’s good you tried it first! We eat ours with breakfast and chew well before trying to swallow, not sure if that makes a difference. But hopefully, you got things figured out with Hiya. Best of luck to you!

My son has been having a lot of stomach aches, we’re keeping a journal of what he eats to narrow it down. Wondering now if it’s the vitamin causing it!
Debbie says
Eeep! I can say that it hasn’t caused issues for my kids, but I know every kid is different, so you never know. Hopefully the vitamins are not the issue, but best of luck figuring out what is causing the issues!

I was looking to get away from gummy vitamins. Why do kids multivitamins have to be gummies? I’m not talking toddler, my son is 10 and fully capable of swallowing a pill. So I went on my own journey to find something better, and with less sugar also, and my search kept taking me back to Hiya. My son also had the same initial experience, way more sour than he was used to (hello lack of added sugar!) but I explained the difference in these vitamins compared to what we’d been using & he accepted that they were better. It did take a few days to get past the taste, but he no longer fusses. I have also orderd Hiya’s probiotic, which says it helps with allergies, so I’m eagerly awaiting that arrival!
