Do you have to get a birthday gift for a two-year-old? Every time I get birthday party invites for my child’s classmate or a friend’s child, I refer back to what my two-year-old kid actually used or liked. Why waste money on a gift that the recipient won’t use (or for moms— would be more junk in the house)?
These are a few of my top go-to gifts that I either gave or my kids received and actually used when they were two. Scroll down below the list for quick shopping by images.
- Construction Plate or Garden Plate and utensils. It makes eating fun!
- A child-sized, comfortable foam chair. It’s similar to the popular Pottery Barn Kids anywhere chair, but not as expensive. We didn’t personalize ours so it’s easier to pass along as the kids grow.
- A sit, stand, ride on toy that grows with them, like this pirate ship or Mickey Mouse ride on car.
- Usborne wipe-clean books like this Pirate Activities book, this Castle Activities book or this Mazes book, which are so helpful for keeping kids’ attention quietly.
- An activity table like this LeapFrog Learn & Groove Learning Table or this VTech Sit to Stand Learn & Discover Table.
- Keep their legs getting stronger with their first scooter.
- Help them get ready for warm weather with a puddle jumper or Sunday Afternoons kids play hat. Good for beach days, playground, splash pads or any other outside time. This hat keeps its shape well and my kids wore it even in the pool (before they actually put their head in).
- A stuffed animal that can also be a nightlight like the Cloud B Turtle Star Projector or Pillow Pet Night Light. My kids love staying up after “lights out” and I love that these have a timer so I don’t have to remember to turn them off later.
- A kid-sized sleeping bag for sleepovers in big sister’s room or even nap time at daycare. There are so many fun options!
- Books with buttons like “Around the Farm” and “Animal Babies Sounds” (why do kids love animal sounds so much?) or books with flaps like “Peek-a-Moo,” “Let’s Go to the Zoo!” and “Let’s Imagine on the Farm.”
- The Book With No Pictures by B. J. Novak. It’s hilarious!
- Help their imagination with dress-up clothes! Fairy wings or real worker costumes like policeman, astronaut or chef.
- Do they love princesses? Get a princess dress-up accessories box or a Disney princess fantasy nightgown.
- Do they love superheroes? Get a superhero dress-up accessories box or a stuffed animal or blanket of their favorite character. Why do kids love stuffed animals so much?
I’m a big fan of theme gifts if there’s more than one item. So, I’d buy a Disney princess fantasy nightgown and an early reader / level 1 book featuring that princess.
Can you tell I love gifting books?
Some of these gifts might not be the favorite item when opened, but they are all items that my kids used more than a few times, often for at least a year.
If you’re visual too, most of the items mentioned above are below. All can be purchased on Amazon for some quick shopping for a fun gift your 2-year-old recipient will love!
