My kids are OBSESSED with legos. So, visiting LEGOLAND and staying at the LEGOLAND hotel in Florida was high on my mom’s list for years. That’s right, not my list… I didn’t even know the place existed. But one quick look at this hotel and we knew my kids would have a blast.
The LEGOLAND Hotel did not disappoint. Not only was it fun for the kids but it was also fun for us adults (big kids) too.
So let’s start with the basics of LEGOLAND Hotel:
- It’s located in Winter Haven, Florida. It took us about an hour to drive from the Tampa International Airport.
- Parking for our rental car was free.
- The hotel is right next to the entrance to LEGOLAND Florida.
- Each floor and room has a theme to it.
- The hotel is connected to the Pirate Island Hotel.
- The hotel has a few different food/dining options, but there are places to eat closeby as well. (One night, we got Panera Bread for dinner.)
- Not surprisingly, there are legos EVERYWHERE. On the walls, in the lobby, in the pool, in the stair well, in the bathrooms, on the staff, outside… everywhere you look.
- The hotel has a pool, a slide, an indoor play area, on-site lego classes (need to sign up in advance), and a putt putt golf area.
- For those who like to workout, it doesn’t have a gym, but you can always go running around the lot and boardwalk area, which is a good size.
- All you can eat breakfast is included with your stay.

So let’s start with the hotel itself. The website says it’s “130 kid-steps away from LEGOLAND Theme Park” but for a visual, the entrance is literally right next to the hotel:
And, LEGOLAND Hotel guests have a separate security line from the general public, which helps get you into the park quicker. Yay!
So as you would expect, every aspect of the inside of the hotel is lego themed. The guest rooms have a few different themes: Kingdom, Adventure, Pirate, LEGO Friends or THE LEGO MOVIE. There are standard-themed rooms and premium-themed rooms. The premium-themed rooms are more heavily decorated, “fully immersive” and cost extra.
We had two different premium-themed rooms. My parents stayed in the premium Adventure room:
And then this was our premium Kingdom room:
The rooms were on separate themed floors, but were so spectacularly detailed from the walls, carpet and bedding to the shower curtains and decor built of actual legos. It’s an extra cost, but these premium rooms did not disappoint!
The “separate kid’s sleeping area” is really nice too. It was two bunkbeds with a trundle bed. The bathroom was between our bed and theirs so lights and noises were a bit more separated than a regular hotel room.
Another parent win — there were a few low shelves for clothes (instead of drawers), a mini fridge, and the bathrooms had potty seats and stools for the little ones. We were able to request a microwave too. Nice little touches.
If housekeeping forgot to set up that free legos or gave the same lego pack the kids already had, we went to the front desk and they nicely gave us new legos.
The common areas were all well decorated: the elevator doors, hallways, lobby, and even the stairwell. Large lego creations were everywhere. Lots of bold colors too.
A few other thoughts about our stay at the LEGOLAND Hotel:
- My kids had a blast trading their lego people for other lego people at the hotel’s front desk or gift shop.
The employees in the hotel and throughout the park wear nametags that can hold lego people on them as well. My kids carried their bag of lego people everywhere so they were always ready to trade.
- Breakfast is free at Bricks, but space in the restaurant is limited. If you don’t arrive earlyish, you’ll be waiting in line for a table as they become available. The line gets quite long. (See photo below)
- The breakfast menu is set each day, but you can request more or less of a food on the menu. From the days we’ve eaten there, I remember: bowls of fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes or waffles, grits, breakfast potatoes, french toast sticks, biscuits and gravy. Mostly heavy foods, but it’s so the kitchen can move quickly.
- The elevators were one of my favorite parts of the hotel. No matter what time of the day, every time you ride in an elevator, it’s a disco dance party. Unfortunately, we didn’t seem to get a good pic of the elevators.
- My kids did one lego building class (extra cost) in the hotel’s Creative Workshop. The instructor was very knowledgeable, but my 10 year old finished his build in 5 minutes just looking at the finished model.
There were only 5 kids in our class total, but my kids had fun making their bulldog on a skateboard.
- Even though we visited in Winter, the pool was heated and so warm enough to swim in. It felt chilly when you got out though!
- There are pool towels available, but you use your room number to check the towels out and back in at these towel vending machines. If you do not return the towels, you’re charged for them.
Unlike at Disney or Universal Studios, LEGOLAND park doesn’t open until 10 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m., so we actually had time to enjoy the hotel. My kids were quite content to be anywhere in the hotel playing with legos for hours, so not once did we hear “I’m bored!” either.
If you’re thinking about making a trip to Florida visit LEGOLAND park and to stay at the LEGOLAND Hotel, I highly recommend going. My lego-loving kids enjoyed every bit of the hotel, and as a parent, I enjoyed it too.
Visiting the LEGOLAND Hotel for us was a huge parent win! Kudos and a big thanks to my mom for arranging the trip!
