Every year, it seems that there’s a new list of “must haves” when we take our kids to the beach. A list of what to bring to help make the beach day fun and easy.
Now that my kids are a little older, we need less beach house stuff than my beach vacation packing list post. Instead of a pack ‘n play or high chairs, I now bring things like my yoga mat and dumbbells. It’s a good feeling.
Of course, we brought our regular beach items:
Collapsible Beach Cart with Folding Back (similar)
- beach chairs
- boogie boards
- cooler and ice packs
- snacks (grapes, carrots, apple sauce pouches, popcorn, watermelon, chips, water)
- sunscreen
- insulated water bottles
- koozies (for my La Croix cans)
- Sunday Afternoon hats
- towels
- kids SPF rash guards
- wide-brimmed, roll-up straw hat
This year, the beach didn’t allow tailgate tents, so our set-up had to change if we wanted shade. And, I saw some really cool ideas from other beach-goers that I want to copy for next year.
Below are some of my new items or those I’m buying before our next beach trip:
6′ Beach Cabana Tent (similar)
Beach Umbrella Hooks (hang bags, towels, bluetooth speaker)
We couldn’t use the sand bags in the tent because it’d be more of a tent than an umbrella. Since it was only 6 feet, we bought two for more shade. This set up a lot easier to carry and break down.
Surfer Dudes, throw it into the water and it returns
Set of 3 Mesh Beach Bags (for toys + seashells)
Wide Paint Brushes (to dust sand off chairs, etc.)
Inflatable Boogie Boards (if you don’t have room for hard ones)
I’ve read that you can dig a hole and put a shower curtain into the sand to make a baby pool, but this collapsible pool was so cool that I added it to my list. We didn’t have to blow it up, and the younger kids LOVED this. It kept them not sandy, and they played in it for HOURS in the shade.
Because the cabana umbrellas, beach chairs, towels and cooler take up most of the space in our cart, you might notice a lot of the items above are small, collapsible or inflatable.
Overall though, we had a great time at the beach, and only minor sunburns occurred. (Mom win!)
When you go to the beach with kids, what are your must-brings? Comment below, I’d love to know if there’s anything I’m missing out on!
