I do not have tattoos, nor am I the person who thinks that getting a tattoo would be relatively painless. I’m a big baby when it comes to needles so a tattoo? No thank you.
BUT after reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses book series, I’ve been thinking differently about tattoos lately. More of the expression and uniqueness of tattoos. If you’ve read the series, you’ll understand why.
Then, when I saw ads for Inkbox temporary tattoos, I thought it might be fun to try them out. Instead of the junky temporary tattoos that my kids get, these looked real.
A bit of background on Inkbox temporary tattoos:
- The tattoos are supposed to last for 1-2 weeks
- Tattoos are easy to apply
- Tattoos are water-resistant and cruelty free
- Inkbox’s website offers thousands of tattoos to choose from
- Their tattoos range in size, from extra small to large
- After sticking the tattoo on, you leave it on for 1 hour.
It seemed fairly easy and something fun to try. Plus, each tattoo was around $7.
I bought two different, small Inkbox tattoos: Make Love and Double the Love, each a 1×1 inch tattoo. Apparently I was feeling lovey that day!
Application Process
If you’ve ever applied a regular temporary tattoo, this is pretty similar. The main difference is the time.
- Exfoliate your skin, the area where you’re going to put the temporary tattoo, with the provided Primer Wipe for 30 seconds.
- Wait 30 seconds for the area to dry.
- Place the tattoo on the skin.
- Peel off the tattoo border.
- Leave on for 60 minutes.
I wasn’t able to peel off the tattoo border (step #4 above) either time, but it didn’t seem much different to me than the sticky area around the tattoo.
Immediately after application, the tattoo was a light blue/green, but then darkened within 24ish hours.
My Application Experience
With my first tattoo, Make Love, I put the tattoo on one very hot afternoon. I thought sitting at my computer for an hour, I’d be fine, but it my body was so hot, that the tattoo ink bled. As the tattoo darkened, so did the area around the tattoo that was within the backing square.
In the photo below, you can see the edge of the square in day 1, and how the top right of the heart wasn’t that dark because the backing wouldn’t quite stick to my hot skin. Whoopsie!
I got quite a few comments about this tattoo, likely because it was so visible; however, most people also noticed the square mess of black ink around the heart too. So unfortunately, the comments were more like “what is that?” versus something positive.
With that said, I still thought the heart would’ve been cute if I hadn’t messed up the application.
For the Double the Love Tattoo, I tried the inside of my wrist. I followed the instructions as precisely as I could, even though I still couldn’t get the tattoo border off.
This tattoo placement was far less noticeable by others, so I didn’t get any comments about it. But, I really loved it. Double loved it! Unfortunately, this one didn’t last past 1 week.
How Long Did My Inkbox Tattoos Last?
Neither Inkbox tattoo lasted more than 7 days, and even day 7 was a faint existence.
The Make Love tattoo lasted only 5 days. BUT, I was fine with that due to my application error. It really didn’t look that good. I used a scrub on the area around the tattoo to get the messy ink off, but it didn’t make much of a difference.
I thought I’d be better with The Double the Love tattoo, but unfortunately it only lasted about 7 days. By day 8, it was completely gone.
Would I Try Inbox Tattoos Again?
Absolutely, I plan to try more Inkbox temporary tattoos. It was so fun to have a tattoo for a while. Although, I think I still need to work on how to better my application process to get past 7 days.
I’m still not likely to get a permanent tattoo myself (this experience hasn’t changed my thoughts on needles) but I’m really glad I tried out Inkbox!
Plus, these could be a fun future gift to get a friend or family member. There are so many options to choose from. Although, they didn’t have a “No Ragrets” option… Meet the Millers anyone? 🙂
