Although art can be an very personal purchase, for those of you who like nautical, sea and nature art should know about Kim Hovell’s paintings. While she’s primarily known for her stunning oyster art, that’s not all she creates.
Kim Hovell’s art includes oysters, flowers, whales, sailboats, crabs, beach scenes, water flora (seaweed, lily pads, etc.) and more. Plus select scenes of downtown Annapolis, which is where her brick and mortar store is.
Kim uses a lot shades of blues, greens and whites in her paintings… or perhaps those are just the ones I’m drawn toward. But mostly, her art looks so effortlessly beautiful. They make me feel serene and wonder.
A few of my favorite Kim Hovell prints; screenshots taken from her website of: Cerulean Reef Print, Race Day Print, Maryland Blue Print and Blooming Blue Print.
IMO, a Kim Hovell print or product with her paintings on it would make a lovely Mother’s Day gift or thoughtful gift for mom.
In my office, I currently have 3 framed Kim Hovell prints: one of downtown Annapolis, one of a vase of flowers and one of a blue crab. A photo of my 3 are below.
Note: The photo is filtered slightly; the paintings colors in real life are more vivid.
A few co-workers have known her art just from the sight of it, and one sent me photos of her Kim Hovell framed pics from her house too (see the bottom 2 in the photo above).
Another co-worker who eyed my prints later told me she gifted a framed oyster print as a wedding gift with a quote about “of all the oysters in the sea….” How sweet!

In addition to prints, she puts her paintings on candles, blankets, beach towels, pillows, coasters, stationery and more. I have one of her acrylic trays on my bedroom desser for my jewelry.
If you peruse Kim’s store, she also has some items in the <$20-$25 range too, if you’re looking for a little hostess gift or holiday gift idea. Prints start at $25. My last White Elephant gift I gave was a Kim Hovell candle.
Or, if you REALLY love her art and have money to burn, you could buy an ORIGINAL Kim Hovell painting. One day, I’ll make enough money to buy a Kim Hovell painting! Until then, I’ll just keep buying her prints.
I don’t get any commission or anything from referring you to Kim’s shop. I genuinely love her art, and so want to spread the word so you have the chance to explore and love it too. Please support this very talented artist!
