A child’s first birthday is such an incredible milestone. The baby is becoming a toddler, moving around, sitting, maybe has teeth, maybe starting to talk, and so much more. Year 1 is a whirlwind!
While I do have a gifts for one year olds post that you can browse through if you’re shopping for an upcoming birthday party, this post is not about gifts. It’s a reminder that a child’s first birthday is a milestone to celebrate for the mom too.
Especially for the first child, a mom has gone through A LOT in the first year: giving birth, late nights, breastfeeding or feeding in general, high stress, mom guilt, society expectations, family expectations and more. Moms go through all of this with very little recognition.
To be honest, I never thought of a first birthday as something to celebrate for the mom too until I saw the Procter & Gamble / Pampers “Mom’s First Birthday” video on YouTube. Since then, I try to send this to friends on their child’s first birthday so that mom can feel “seen” too.
Every time I watch it, I tear up. So, brace yourself mamas and take a few minutes to watch the video below. Whether your child is 1 or 21, I hope this helps you feel like I’m giving you a virtual hug and some recognition because you deserve to be celebrated too.
And yes, dads are great too, but I’m a mom so I can only post from a mom’s perspective. I’ve never had a stranger remark how great it is that I took my child alone to the grocery store, library, or playground. I’ve heard dads getting praise regularly for “giving mom a break,” or “watching “babysitting” their own child on an average day.
So let’s show mom some love and recognition on their child’s birthday or every day.
Have you seen this “Mom’s First Birthday” video before? If this is the first time you’ve seen it, what did you think? If you’re a mom, did you feel appreciated and celebrated on your child’s first birthday? I hope so, but if not, congrats to you, mama.
Thank you for reading!
